Marketing Careers
Marketing involves promoting and advertising a product or service to its target audience, or intended users. It makes for a great undergraduate career. Marketing combines several fields, such as advertising, public relations, research and brand management. Because of this, there are many options in terms of marketing careers. Marketing careers can be fun, but they can also be fast-paced and stressful. Also, they can be challenging because of the many changes, with new techniques and strategies to learn and research. With the many deadlines, a successful marketing professional needs to be able to work well under pressure. Those interested in marketing careers need to be able to communicate effectively, solve problems and create new ideas. Most positions will require the applicant to have a college degree.
Marketing careers can be pursued in the public relations field. People in public relations help manage campaigns and roll out new products; and they help companies manage their public image. They may also create communication pieces, such as articles, press releases, brochures, advertisements, flyers, speeches and press kits.
The field of market research also offers careers in marketing. Market research involves studying human behavior to determine why consumers buy a certain product. Market researchers use a combination of statistics, tests, surveys and focus groups to collect data. They then use this data to determine trends and consumer behavior. This is an interesting field that is rapidly growing.
Brand management is another area of marketing. Marketing careers in this field involve focusing on a specific product brand and determining marketing opportunities, researching competitors and communicating the benefits of the product. Brand management may also involve ad campaigns and creating a marketing strategy based on product samples, photos and videos.
Another area of marketing is promotions. Marketing careers in the promotions area involve creating incentives to purchase a product. Marketing careers often require at least a bachelor’s degree, although some high-level management positions may require a master’s degree. The degree does not necessarily have to be in marketing. Although some background in marketing is preferred, degrees in business, psychology and communications also work well with marketing careers.
